Look at their work
Their Instagram or website shows their style and their healed pieces: the best way to tell whether they are the right artist for your project.
Check their hygiene
In France, a tattoo artist declares their activity to the regional health agency (ARS) and takes a hygiene and safety training. The « Registered with the ARS » label comes from the list published by the ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes; the other regions do not publish theirs.
Plan for a deposit
Most studios ask for a deposit to hold your date, taken off the final price.
